How To Clear CMOS-BIOS Settings Of Computer Motherboard

What is CMOS-BIOS? This part is installed on the computer motherboard or MOBO. It's a special microchip or IC that has firmware or small software called BIOS stored on the Microchip called CMOS.

BIOS means Basic Input Output System, it's a small software (Firmware) that instruct the computer how to do basic functions such as booting the computer operating system and controlling keyboard functions. Including time module and also use to identify computer hardware configuration.

CMOS means Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, it's a microchip and a small memory of computer motherboard that stored the Basic Input Output System or BIOS.

For a computer that has no display problem, it may help to resolve the problem by clearing the CMOS- BIOS settings. Because it will restore the default settings.

WAYS HOW TO CLEAR CMOS BIOS SETTINGS OF COMPUTER MOTHERBOARD

TWO WAYS TO CLEAR CMOS-BIOS SETTINGS

  1. Using the CMOS jumper, mostly beside the CMOS Battery, its a jumper position and time to wait.
  2. Using the CMOS Battery, it's a 3 volts coin dry cell that has a part number of CR2032.

Clear CMOS-BIOS Using Jumper

STEPS TO CLEAR CMOS USING THE CMOS JUMPER

  1. Power off and unplug the PC.
  2. Then open the side cover of the system case to let you visualize the motherboard.
  3. Locate the CMOS jumper, commonly it's beside the CMOS battery and has 3 pins. If you have motherboard manual use it to locate it.
  4. If you locate it, the CMOS jumper has a position of 1-2 then 2-3. Move the jumper from the default position 1-2 to 2-3 to clear the CMOS. Wait up to 1-5 minutes then back the jumper to the default position.
  5. Power on the computer then enters into the BIOS settings to reset the default.

STEPS TO CLEAR THE CMOS USING THE CMOS BATTERY

  1. Power off and unplug the PC.
  2. Remove the side cover of the system case.
  3. Find the battery on the mobo, either it is located on a horizontal or vertical battery holder or connected to the mobo with 2 wires.
  4. Then remove the battery gently, take note of the battery orientation of positive (+) and negative (-) positions.
  5. If the Battery is connected using the wire to the motherboard. Disconnect the wire from the header pins.
  6. Then wait 1-5 minutes, then reconnect the battery.
  7. Then cover the system case.
  8. Then power on the PC.
If your computer has no display then you tried this procedure to possibly return the display. If not solve it's possible the problem is the memory of the video card or the mobo itself is damage. You can try to use the isolation procedure to check what parts of the motherboard attached were faulty.
