Can a Dual Core Do Games and Perform Good Performance?

Gamers are like students. They’d rather buy cheap essays at essaytwist than buy expensive ones. The same goes with gamers. They prefer low-cost hardware. Can a dual core rig do games, especially modern ones?

Yes and no.

Let’s start with the NO first.

You see a lot of modern game titles nowadays are made or developed in a quad-core environment. But that does not mean that it will not run on a dual core machine. There are some factors that need to be taken into considerations like:
  • Processor speed
  • Graphics card
  • RAM size
  • Motherboard capacity
  • Power supply capacity
  • Hard drive transfer rate and latency
  • Operating System quality
So if we were to use a dual core, it will drown or presumably will not keep up with the whole process of managing instructions and so on without significant hardware support.  And the chance of a dual core processor alone being able to withstand that much of a requirement is highly unlikely considering the number of processor is involved.

In the YES side, there are some ways around it. If you are willing to try and max out your rig’s capacity and output, it is possible. And do not worry. We are not going to overclock your processor if you do not want to.

Note: This has been tested and the probability that this will not work is slim. So trust me when I say that it is possible for your dual core to play modern title games. And no, Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, ARMA 3 and the likes are not included in the list. That will be absurd. Let’s just stick with mid-end modern ones.

The Rig

Dual core processors
  • Intel i3 3rd gen with 3.0ghz and up
  • AMD A4 6300 and higher
Graphics Card
  • Integrated or built-in
  • If you could afford more, go for a graphics card with 2GB VRAM and with a minimum of 128bit capacity.
RAM Size

  • 6GB-8GB

  • Any unit that is overclockable as they can render higher performance.
Power Supply

  • Go for 500-700watts, and if you can afford it, choose the rated ones.
Hard Drive

  • Choose the ones with 7200RPM and 500GB (at least) capacity.
Operating System

  • Let’s assume that you have a Windows operating system. I advise that you go for a minimum of Windows 7 64bit Pro/Ultimate, Windows 8.1.1 Pro 64bit, and Windows 10 64bit Pro. Do not use a 32bit operating system because it can only support up to 4GB RAM. So 6GB and up will only go to waste.
This rig alone can run these games at 720p to 1080p:

  • Tomb Raider (2013) in midrange settings and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) at low settings
  • Dirt Rally (2015) mid to high settings
  • Need for Speed Most Wanted 2 (2012) Mid settings
  • DMC: Devil May Cry (2010) High settings
  • Prototype 2 (2012) mid to high settings
  • Batman: Arkham Knight (2015) mid settings
  • Resident Evil: Raccoon City (2012) in mid to high settings, Revelations 1 & 2 in low to mid settings
  • GTA 4 (2008) mid to high settings
  • FIFA (2012) Mid to high settings
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (2010) High settings
  • Online games such as DOTA 2, League of Legends, and Team Fortress 2 can be played on high settings.
You can play along with the graphics settings when you think there are some drops of frames happening with your gameplay.

Please be reminded that this rig is to only make full of use of the power of a dual core. And besides, to be honest, the majority of gamers around the world cannot afford a $5000+ budget for a PC. And so the recommended rig online by those bloggers and YouTube channels is not for everyone.

Therefore, what they advise as a system requirement is not for typical gamers. If you just want to play these game titles and other similar mid-end games, your dual core with these set of hardware is good enough. Just do not expect a 2K to a 4K quality of the display.

Typically, 25fps-50fps is achievable. That depends on the resolution and the setup you made in the advanced interface for graphics. Make sure to turn off Vertical sync and then you can start fiddling those other aspects and features.

Once again, this rig is only for those who want to be able to play these titles. Another outrageous luxury requirement like having 100fps or 4K display support is not for this setup.

6 Reasons Why Your Hard Drive or Hard Disk Dies

A lot of clients has been asking me about the lifespan of their hard drive every time they come to my shop to reformat their system and install a new operating system.

I would say typically that a hard drive usually lasts some thousand times of reformat. Well, actually it still depends on the frequency of your usage with your system. I will explain more on this later.

Now, for those who are really wondering about the factors of how a hard drive fails, here are the reasons.

Wear and tear
As I mentioned earlier, a hard drive can fail to depend on the frequency of usage and the heaviness of the task that is being loaded to the hard drive.

Heavy loads include:
  • Huge file transfers
  • Repeated reformat
  • Running heavy resource-demanding games

Of course, those things are inevitable because those are the reasons why you got a computer system in the first place—to do those things.

Time easily runs out. Students usually have their buns in a twist finding the time to write essays, which is why to resort to Essay Twist, to untwist their twisted schedules.

Time is of the essence for you too. Everything wears out and deteriorates over time. That could be said as well with hard drives. Such is inevitable just as any circumstances in this world.

That is why if you can afford it do not buy a second-hand model especially the ones which are manufactured a decade ago. Chances of that drive to live long and still be reliable is way too slim to anticipate.

Heat is a notorious one for killing hard drives. It is the most common encountered issues among my clients. Some even burn literally, perhaps due to poor ventilation and proper installation.

It is highly advised that you check the connections and make sure that there are no loose cables and all the fans are working.

Another thing is you should keep the inside of your computer CPU clean and free from cobwebs and dust. Just be careful not to touch some of the sensitive parts while you are at it. A CPU blower will do the trick for this job.

One thing you should know about hard drives is that they have moving parts inside. Therefore you should avoid knocking it intentionally or unintentionally.

There are also instances that a drive gets damaged when you move it while it is spinning or having some heavy tasks at the moment. The disk can spin out of place or an abrupt interruption of the activity can create some bad sectors on the disk itself.

Power failure

Yes, those sudden cut off power on your system, brown-outs or accidental plug-out of electric cable can lead to some damage to your disk. This occurs usually when you are transferring huge files and this incident happens.

To prevent this kind of situation, buy a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to make sure that you will still have power in case of brownouts or other power failure instances. Giving you enough time to save your work and properly shut down your system.

Chances of this happening are quite slim but still worth noting. Malware can damage your drive when it is programmed to give heavy loads of tasks through the disk. This can cause overheating even with enough ventilation inside your system hardware.

One way to check your system for malware is to open the Task Manager on your desktop and see the applications that are consuming too much resource from the drive. See running applications and if you find some irregularities or an app that should not be there or should not be running in the first place, try stopping it by clicking “end process”.

And if that does not work then you are probably infected and you should run system diagnostic and scan for viruses and malware.

Reprogram your operating system should the antivirus fail and if the anomaly still persists.

Recommended Minimum Desktop Computer Configurations for Your Type of User

Planning to buy your first ever computer system?

It is year 2017 so you should be aware that most applications are a bit demanding when it comes to resources, so try not to believe everything the sales guy tells you.

There are a few things you should consider first before rushing to the nearest computer store. Not all computer configurations apply to a certain type of user.

Whether you’re a social media bug, obsessed with your Facebook and Twitter accounts, an office and home user, looking to buy essays at https://essaytwist.com/prices, a hard core gamer, or a business junkie, you should take into consideration these tips.

Each of those users has a specific minimum system requirement for their computer activities. You cannot give a hardcore gamer a computer that is assembled for the social media bug. Drop off frame rates on the game will significantly destroy the user experience.

And if you give a system configuration that was meant for a gamer to a social media bug, you will have wasted a lot of money for a resource that will never be fully utilized.

Now, let us get to the main reason why you are here: To know the system configuration that you should consider for your computer system.

Social Media Bug

Since you will be focused mostly on Facebook, YouTube and other social media sites, you will not need much in terms of graphics card. An average one will do.

What you will need is a sufficient processing power and RAM.

Here is the minimum hardware that you need:

Processor: Intel i3 3xxxx+ 3.4GHZ or AMD A4 6300 3.7GHZ

Graphics Card: Integrated (Built-in with processors)

Storage: 500 GB Hard Drive

All other accessories will be up to you depending on your needs and preferences.

Some low-resource or low graphics settings of games will work in this setup so you can put some games for when you are feeling bored with reading status updates and watching online videos.

Office and Home User

Similar to Social media bug, there is not much upgrade on your hardware, except for the graphics. Office work sometimes uses some applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, InDesigns and other 3D rendering software.

Here is your minimum system requirement:

Processor: Intel i5 3xxxx+, AMD A6 7400K 3.9GHZ or AMD Athlon APU 5xxx

RAM: 4-6GB

Graphics Card: Integrated, NVidia GeForce 740+ or AMD Radeon HD 7750+

Storage: 500 GB Hard Drive

Business Junkie

Business junkies are quite demanding when it comes to computer hardware. They often use software for media editing and conversion so it is vital that they should go for some specification that can feed on this need.

For media editing hardware, here is the minimum that you should go for:

Processor: Intel i7 3xxxxx+, AMD A10 7890K or AMD FX 8350+

Graphics Card: The processors mentioned are equipped with performance-ready integrated graphics card but if you want more, you can go for NVidia GeForce GTX 750 and up or Radeon Pro 460 and higher.

Storage: Depending on the files and media that you are handling, you can go for 500GB up to 1TB of Hard Drive.

This setup is also suitable for typical gamer as this is the setup that most common users go for. This system can handle DOTA 2, League of Legends and most of the online games available to date. You can put the settings from mid to high—just skim through the frame rate if it suits your game.

Hardcore Gamer

This setup is the most expensive of them all so it will be best if we just start with the minimum system configuration.

Being an avid gamer of popular titles, it is expected that your choices will be ultra-demanding. So here is the minimum hardware specification for your taste:

Processor: Intel Pentium G4xxx, Intel i5 7500, Intel i7 7xxx, AMD A10 7800+ and AMD FX 9xxx.

Also, it is worth mentioning the newest AMD Ryzen processor series. Released this March 2017 and is said to compete with Intel’s high-end CPUs.

RAM: 8-32GB (depending on your title choices but 16GB will be the safest option)

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 series and the NVidia GTX 900+ will do great. But if you want a monster setup, try the NVidia Titan series and AMD Radeon Pro Duo.

Storage: 1-3TB will do great wonders for your storage needs.

I hope you have found the right setup for your everyday uses.

If you have more ideas regarding computer building, please feel free to comment your thoughts and let us talk about it.
